Not just play:Train so you play stronger.
A clear path from mating tactics to openings, 8000+ annotated problems and model games, and Pikafish running on your own device to play against and review move by move. Android, iOS, macOS, Windows and Linux.

The path
Four steps, in the right order
Most players learn backwards: memorise openings first, then fail to convert a won endgame. The app puts the order back so your strength builds from the ground up.
- Step 1
Mating tactics
Every game ends in mate. Once the basic mating patterns are yours, you can see the win coming and know what each move is aiming at.
- Step 2
Endgame
Few pieces, clear rules — where you learn what each piece is really worth. Know what wins and what draws, and you know when to trade.
- Step 3
Middlegame
With tactics and endgames behind you, the middlegame has a purpose: attack when there is a chance, otherwise trade into a winning ending.
- Step 4
Openings
Study formations once you understand the game and it stops being rote: you see why each move is played and which endgame it leads to.

Inside the app
One place to study, drill and verify
Read the classics, solve on the board yourself, then take the position to the engine — all three in the same app, on the same board.
Study the classics
Old manuals as real software, not photographs of book pages.
Full variation tree
Move arrows right on the board. Step through moves, pick Line 1 / Line 2 and every side branch — or let the app replay the whole line.
Annotations, read aloud
Each move's commentary sits next to the board. Turn on speech and set the pace when you would rather listen while you watch.
Solve mode
Play the solution yourself instead of watching it. Hints when you are stuck, mistakes counted, and you choose Red, Black or both sides.
Spaced repetition
Solved problems come back on a schedule based on how hard they were. The app reminds you at your chosen time — only what you are about to forget.
Bookmarks & progress
Mark branches as studied, pin hard problems for later, and see how many of each chapter you have solved.
Play & review with Pikafish
The engine runs on your device — no network needed, no games sent anywhere.
Four difficulty levels
Novice, Player, Expert, Master. Let the engine take Red, take Black, or switch both off and play the whole board yourself.
Coach mode
Drop a piece badly and the engine stops the game, tells you, and shows the better move — while you still remember what you were thinking.
Full game review
After the game every move is graded Best · Good · Inaccuracy · Mistake · Blunder, with an evaluation chart and the line the engine recommends.
Elo and game history
Every game updates your Elo. Reopen any past game to walk through it move by move and branch by branch.
Move-purpose analysis
More than a number: see which squares the piece you just moved is heading for two and three moves into the engine's plan.
Your own board
Positions you meet in real life, in a paper book, or in old files — bring them all in.
Scan a board from a photo
Photograph a real board or a diagram in a book and the app rebuilds the position. The recognition model downloads once, then works offline.
Position editor & FEN
Drag pieces from the tray onto the board and get told at once if the position is illegal. Import or export FEN, then play the engine from it.
Saved positions
Your own position library, sorted into groups and subgroups — reopen any of them to study or to play.
Add your own books
Import XQF, PGN and CBL/CBR files with moves and variations intact. Pick a whole folder: folder name becomes the book, subfolders become chapters.
Draw & share
Sketch arrows on the board to explain a line to someone, then save or share the board as an image.
